| Final Warning For Remaining 152 Families At Pekeliling Flats |

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Ministry Sunday gave a final warning to the remaining 152 families at the Pekeliling Flats to move to new housing units in Setapak soon, or risk action against them.
Its deputy minister, Datuk M. Saravanan, said although Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would not take drastic action but a firm and final warning had been issued.
"DBKL obviously did not want to be aggressive and issued a notice instead, while holding continuous discussions," he said after officiating at a dengue-free campaign in Kampung Sungai Mulia, Gombak, near here, Sunday.
While advising the remaining families to move to the new housing units, the deputy minister said their refusal to move would only delay the development planned for the area and tarnish the city's image.
"We have given them too many leeway, but that doesn't mean that DBKL allowed them to stay there," he said. Built in 1964, the Pekeliling Flats was among the oldest flats in the city.
Meanwhile, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latif Ahmad, in his speech at the campaign, said public awareness on the dangers of dengue was still low as 91 per cent of the 1,838 aedes-breeding cases were in residential areas.
"The situation clearly shows that the people do not give enough priority to cleanliness of their surroundings," he said.
The text of his speech was read by the ministry's Disease Control director, Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman.
