| RM3 Mln New Boats To Beef Up Flood Rescue Operations |

PENGKALAN KUBOR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- The Fire and Rescue Department is now able to improve its services with the purchase of eight new boats worth RM3 million for rescue operations.
Its director-general Datuk Hamzah Abu Bakar said the boats from New Zealand were more useful than normal ones as they could be used on land and water.
"We are confident that operations to help flood victims during the rainy season will be more effective with these boats," he told reporters here on Tuesday.
Earlier, he launched the Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department's Integrity and Innovation Day celebration at the Pengkalan Kubor fire station.
Hamzah said the decision to buy the boats was made after seeing its effectiveness in helping flood victims in Pahang last year.
"The eight-passenger boat is special in that it has wheels which allows it to move on land and can be carried by helicopter."
He said the department had also bought an additional 80 aluminium boats to prepare for the rainy season.
"We have frozen the leave of our personnel and with this early preparation, the department can do more in helping flood victims," he said.
