Wanita BN Wants More Women Leaders In Each Party's Main Body

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Wanita Barisan Nasional (BN) wants more women leaders to be absorbed into the main body of each of the component party.

Its chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, who is also Women, Family and Community Development Minister, said this was to facilitate championing of women's issues by the women leaders together with their male counterparts in the 1Malaysia spirit.

"We want to highlight women's, family and community issues in the political forums as this is our struggle for and service to the people.

"We feel that these issues are political issues as the people prefer political leaders who fight for such issues as the positive outcome will help raise their quality of life and protect their rights," she said after attending the Sabah Wanita BN meeting, here, Tuesday.

Shahrizat said Wanita BN would identify the important issues concerning women and the family to be highlighted as political issues, so as plans could be drawn up for implementation to address the social problems.

She said women's issues should be raised by the women leaders for the attention of the other party leaders and decision-makers.

According to her, women's issues were now serious issues as women tried to achieve a balance between their career and home.

"Women's issues are also economic issues as half of the country's population and workforce are women. As such, we have to think of creating a family-friendly work environment.

"To help spur the country's economic growth, more women are also required to go out and work," she said.
