| Youth Needs To Acquire More Skill To Be Credible Leaders - Dr Mahathir |
|
PUTRAJAYA, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed has advised the nation's youth to focus more on their studies and acquiring knowledge and skills to be more credible leaders instead of wasting their time holding demonstrations.
"There's no doubt that there are many youths who are very intelligent but to say that they know better than older people, I don't really agree.
"When I was young and while I had all these ideals to do things that older people did not do, I realised that I did not have the skills, nor was I accepted as a credible leader. Which was why I decided that in order to be credible and have people listen to me, I had first to acquire an education.
"Youths need to give themselves more credentials, more skills and more knowledge," he said in his keynote address for the 10th Perdana Discourse Series entitled "The Role of Women and Youth in National Development" here on Wednesday.
Calling on the youth be have more patience, he said: "While I understand that there are things that (the youth see) are wrong (in society), you have time to grow up and you'll have time to handle the wrong things with society."
