PAS Seminar To Steer Clear Of Leadership Crisis

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- PAS' leadership crisis will not be discussed at the party's political seminar scheduled for Saturday, said its vice-president, Salahuddin Ayub.

He said instead the seminar would focus on ways to empower the party and strengthen the opposition cohesiveness.

"This (the crisis) does not arise as it is considered resolved. On (Datuk) Dr Hassan Ali (Selangor PAS Commissioner), we leave it to the party's disciplinary committee to decide," said Salahuddin when contacted Wednesday.

He said the participants would deliberate on a keynote address by party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

"We hope the participants will explain to the people that PAS is still with the opposition alliance and in fact we will bolster our position in the alliance," he said.

Salahuddin said the seminar, which would be attended by PAS members from all branches, was open to the public.

Two political observers, Prof Dr Abdul Aziz Bari from International Islamic University Malaysia and Prof Dr Abu Hassan Hasbullah from Universiti Malaya had been invited to present working papers.

"We are ready to hear alternative views," said Salahuddin.

He said the seminar was to replace an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) proposed by PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Nik Abdul Aziz wanted the party to call for an EGM to weed out what he had described as "two or three" problematic leaders.
