More Medical Aid Mission Members Head To Padang


IPOH, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Four Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) personnel will join the Malaysian Relief Agency's (MRA) mission to offer medical aid to the earthquake victims in Padang, Indonesia, from Nov 7 to 14.

The team, led by Assoc Prof Dr Abdul Karim Russ Hassan, compris ed two medical doctors, a pharmaceutical assistant, and a counselor.

"The team will tend to the victims at the disaster area. We are expecting over 100 patients daily," Dr Abdul Karim told a news conference here Wednesday.

Besides medical aid, it would also offer post-trauma counselling for the victims.

"We are the seventh team supervised by the MRA and the programme has also received support from various non-governmental organisations and hospitals in terms of medical supply," he said.

Hundreds of people were killed, while thousands more were injured in the earthquake which hit the area on Sept 30.
