Farmers In Camerons Warned Not To Use Excessive Pesticide

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- The Pahang government warned vegetable farmers in Cameron Highlands not use excessive pesticides failing which action would be taken against them.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said excessive use of pesticides was not only harmful to human health but also could harm the delicate environment in the highlands.

"I appreciate private television station TV3 for exposing this problem of excessive use of pesticides in Cameron Highlands. This will help the state government go after the culprits," he told reporters after witnessing the signing ceremony for the sale of industrial land in Gebeng near Kuantan by the state economic development corporation to Eco Towers, a wind towers manufacturer, here Wednesday.

Eco Towers will build a plant costing US$80 million on the site.

It is expected come onstream in the second half of next year and will provide employment to some 500 people.
