Sungai Golok Breaches Danger Level

KOTA BAHARU, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Sungai Golok has breached the danger level in Rantau Panjang following four days of continuous heavy rain.

The water levels at Jenob, Tanah Merah and several other places are also fast approaching the danger level and those living along the river banks and in low-lying areas are advised to prepare for the possibility of floods.

A Kelantan police operations room spokesman said today the water level of Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang as at 9am was 9.22m, above the danger level of 9m while that in Jenob, Tanah Merah, stood at 22.96m which was above the alert level of 21.5m.

As for Sungai Kelantan, the levels in all the five areas -- Dabong and Tualang in Gua Musang, Tangga Krai in Kuala Krai, Kusial in Tanah Merah and Tambatan Diraja here -- have breached the alert level.

The intermittent heavy rain in Kelantan is forecast to continue until Sunday and the state Drainage and Irrigation Department has opened its flood operations room since Thursday.
