| Ministers Told To Get Hands-On And Oversee At Least One Project |

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has tasked each cabinet minister to handle and oversee at least one project, strategy or measure announced in the 2010 Budget to ensure its planned implementation goes according to schedule.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told reporters that Najib assigned the responsibilities today during a meeting with ministers, secretaries-general, department and agency heads as well as other stakeholders on the effective implementation of the 2010 Budget strategies and measures.
"The prime minister wants projects under the 2010 Budget to be implemented according to schedule," he said.
Muhyiddin said the government had identified 160 projects to be implemented, and placed them under the purviews of the respective ministries.
The projects would then be monitored by the Prime Minister's Department's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), which would also function as an on-the-ground trouble shooter.
Speaking to reporters after attending the meeting at the Finance Ministry, Muhyiddin said, the ICU was given a big responsibility to monitor the implementation of projects.
"This is an outcome-based approach with ministers given the task to oversee the implementation of at least one of the projects each, while the secretaries-general will oversee three or four projects.
"The ICU will also monitor projects which need certain measures to ensure they are completed on schedule," he said.
He said that this was the first time the prime minister had given specific focus on the implementation of projects to ensure that within the time-frame given, the nation would feel the effects of the 2010 Budget.
"That is why the ICU has to monitor and troubleshoot and will not just wait for reports before taking action.
"If there are problems related to land, then the ministers or officers should resolve the matter with the menteri besar or chief ministers," he said.
