Association Regrets Dr Asri's Broken Promise

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Syarie Lawyers Assocation of Malaysia regrets that former Perlis Mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainal Abidin broke his promise to the association by issuing a media statement on their meeting at the Palace of Golden Horses Hotel near here Thursday.

Association president Mohamad Isa Abd Ralib also described Dr Asri's action as a total disregard for Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Maj Gen (R) Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom who was the meeting's mediator.

"We regret that matters discussed at the closed-door meeting were divulged to the media, including pictures taken from irresponsible sources.

"Thus, we are defending the memorandum submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and mutually signed by Muslim non-governmental organisations, opposing Dr Asri's appointment as Islamic Da'wah Foundation Malaysia president," he told a press conference here Friday.
