President Hu's Visit To Push China-asean Ties To Greater Heights

BEIJING, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Asean countries, the first in 15 years by China's head of state, will help push China-Asean relations to greater heights, officials said.

China's Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Hu zhengyue said Hu would be visiting Malaysia and Singapore from Nov 10-13.

"For the first time in 15 years China's head of state is visiting the two Asean countries," Hu told a media briefing.

The last visit by a Chinese head of state to Malaysia was in November 1994 by President Jiang Zemin.

This will be Hu's second visit to Malaysia having visited the country as Chinese vice-president in May 2002.

A Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ma Zhaoxi earlier said, "We believe this visit will further strengthen Chinese diplomatic ties with the two countries."

Ma also said that many of the things discussed during Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's visit to Beijing in June this year would be formally inked during Hu's visit.
