| GUP The Only Way To Unite MCA - Information Chief |

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- All MCA members have been urged to give the Greater Unity Plan (GUP) an opportunity to succeed as it is believed to be the only way to unite the party.
MCA information and communication bureau chief Senator Heng Seai Kie said they had the will and ability to mobilise all resources available to promote reforms in order to regain the people's support and ultimately face the next general election.
"If everyone can treat each other honestly, practice tolerance in the interest of the party, unity can be achieved.
"Any internal conflicts must be halted because these in-fightings will weaken the party. The GUP will be able to heal all wounds in the party," the Deputy Minister of Information Communication and Culture said in a statement here Friday.
Heng also expressed suprise over the action of central committee (CC) members Wong Nai Chee, Datuk Wee Jeck Seng and Datuk Liew Yuen Keong who submitted a requisition to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to call fresh party elections.
"I am surprised that all three requisitionists, who knowingly have contravened the party constitution, yet still intentionally persisted in calling for an EGM.
"I am surprised with their actions as they are senior MCA members and very familiar with the party constitution," she added.
On Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai's decision to appeal over the Registrar of Societies (ROS) decision, Heng said, it was his legal right to do so.
"However a decision had been reached to accept the final decision of the ROS that Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek be reinstated as deputy president while Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai remained as vice president.
"Therefore, the issue of MCA having two deputy presidents simultaneously as reported by certain mainstream press never and should not have existed at all," she said.
The MCA central committee had on Tuesday (Nov 3) unanimously reinstated Dr Chua as deputy president following the Registrar of Societies (ROS) decision that the position had not been vacated.
In a letter to the MCA, the ROS said it felt that there was no vacancy for the post of deputy president as the decision on the resolution of the MCA extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Oct 10 did not fulfil the requirement for a two-thirds majority as provided under Article 35 of the MCA constitution.
"All decisions made by the CC fulfills the democratic process and does not contravene the party constitution. Although it is expected that different opinions may arise in any organisation, MCA has to show a spirit of teamwork," she said.
