Refer To Department Before Accepting Job Offer Abroad - Maznah

KUCHING, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Maznah Mazlan has reminded those wanting to work abroad to check with the Manpower Department to ensure that their employment agents are genuine.

She said that there were numerous complaints among Sarawakians that they were cheated by their agents, with most of the complaints, numbering 803 from January to September this year, coming from those working in Singapore.

"These complaints include being misled on the actual nature of job and the salary offered and that their welfare were not taken care of," she told reporters after opening a job placement programme here on Saturday.

She said that so far the department had acted against four employment agents for operating illegally.

She also reminded private companies in the state to obtain a licence from the Manpower Department should they employ local workers who are not from Sarawak.

On the programme today, she said, it offered a total of 4,145 vacancies from the support group way up to the management level in the private and public sector.
