KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- More flood evacuees in Terengganu are allowed to return home as the flood in affected areas subsided further this evening.
A state security council spokesman said as at 4pm, there were only 1,107 people remained at 21 evacuation centres in Besut, Dungun, Setiu and Hulu Terengganu.
They comprise 32 in Besut, 534 in Dungun, 432 in Setiu and 109 in Hulu Terengganu.
There were those who had been allowed to return home but chose to remain at the centres for fear of a second wave of the flood.
"We have closed down 32 evacuation centres since noon today but they will be reopened in the event of another flood," he said.
The water level in all rivers was now below the danger level, he said.
Only Jalan Pengkalang Merbau Tiong-Pelong was still closed to light vehicles, he said.
In KOTA BAHARU, the number of evacuees as at 3pm stood at 2,328, mostly in Pasir Mas (1,322) and Tanah Merah (706), said state flood operations control centre chief Shahnaz Nurul Amin.
Meanwhile, the Kuala Krai flood operations room, which was opened yesterday, was closed today as there no more flooding in the area.
Shahnaz said they would also send food supplies to two evacuation centres namely Masjid Gabus in Rantau Panjang and Sekolah Kebangsaan Kubang Kual as the disaster relief committee in Pasir Mas had difficulties sending them as roads were closed due to the flood.
The water level at Sungai Golok and Sungai Kelantan was still above the danger level this evening, she said.
All roads in the affected areas are passable to vehicles except for the one connecting Kota Baharu and Pantai Cahaya Bulan which is still closed to all vehicles.
In ALOR SETAR, 474 people in Padang Terap were evacuated as at 3pm Saturday.
A flood operations room spokesman Salim Mahmud said among the affected areas are Kampung Tanjung, Kuala Jani, Kuala Semeliang, Rambutan, Kejai and Malau.
He expects more will be evacuated as the water level in Sungai Padang Terap is rising and has breached the danger level.
