TM Upbeat About Benefits Of Teleworking
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is upbeat about the increasing awareness on the benefits of teleworking among Malaysians and applauds the initiative taken by Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor to implement a teleworking programme for the staff of the Public Works Department.
Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM, describing teleworking as the 'green' thing to do, said with teleworking, there will be a reduction in commuting and hence a reduction in the carbon footprint.
TM, as the leading Internet Service Provider (ISP) will play its role to provide information communication technology (ICT) services to companies wanting to harness ICT as a green technology towards mitigating climate change, he said in a statement here Friday.
Zamzamzairani said TM has the capability and infrastructure to provide the support for companies that plan to implement teleworking among its workforce.
"We do offer networking solutions for home offices and our communications services essentially help enterprises implement more eco-friendly and cost-effective practices, thereby helping to reduce the companies' environmental footprint."
TM itself has made a good stride in harnessing the ICT as a green technology by implementing teleworking for its staff.
TM earlier this year launched teleworking involving 140 staff from its corporate sales division.
It is now looking at implementing teleworking for staff in its enterprise segment.
TM also enforces remote meetings via teleconferencing and live streaming between its regional offices nationwide.
It said the High Speed Broadband (HSBB) service, when it is launched next year, will also make teleworking a realistic choice as transfer of data can be carried out efficiently.
In addition, HSBB will enable consumers to use real-time interactive applications such as video conferencing for their discussions without their presence in the actual physical location.
This is a reality in developed countries and is fast becoming a much-used tool. This will definitely please those who are concerned about the rising price of fuel and are environmentally conscious, TM added.
