Ministry Gives Special Focus On Broadband Project

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- The Information Communication and Culture Ministry will give special focus to the implementation of the high speed broad band (HSBB) project so that the service could be enjoyed by the people next year as scheduled.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said although the ministry was focusing on the project, monitoring on the hundreds of other projects under the ministry would also be carried out continuously.

"We have 18 departments under the ministry and we also have hundreds of projects that we are monitoring directly but for me, and especially my colleagues in the ministry, I wish to emphasise that the broad band is one of the projects," he told reporters after a visit to the Laman Budaya Rakyat at the Dataran Merdeka, here Saturday night.

In addition, he said the ministry was also giving full attention to ensure the success of the 1Malaysia concept mooted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"Secondly, we want to achieve 1Malaysia through understanding, acceptance and practice where our performance index so far has been satisfactory and I hope the Prime Minister can feel what we are saying," he said.

He said this when asked to comment on the statement by Najib yesterday on the move to distribute responsibilities, tasks and time frame to the various ministries and agencies to ensure that the strategies and measures announced in the 2010 Budget were implemented according to schedule.

On the Laman Budaya Rakyat Kuala Lumpur organised by the ministry every Saturday night from 6pm to 10.30pm, Rais said it was an initiative taken by the ministry to enable the people to relax and give a new breath of life to Kuala Lumpur.
