Najib Proud Of Civil Servants Working At NKRA Labs

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is proud of over 200 civil servants working at eight laboratories responsible for the government's transformation programme.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the eight laboratories at the Palm Garden Resort here, Najib said he had seen how the work was being carried out at these laboratories to advance the National Key Results Area (NKRA), 1Malaysia and national unity agenda.

The eight laboratories began their operations on Oct 5, one each for the six NKRAs -- education, low income households, basis rural infrastructure, urban public transport, corruption and crime -- and two other focus areas namely 1Malaysia and national unity, and data management.

Over 200 individuals from various ministries, agencies and departments, from throughout the country are working at these labs.

In each of the labs, there are at least 20 organisations working together, breaking down barriers aimed at enhancing government service delivery and institute the culture of high performance in public administration.

These labs will formulate detailed on-the-ground action plans to realise each of the NKRAs and the 1Malaysia initiative.

These action plans will be announced by early next year.

"I am really proud of the contribution and commitment of these civil servants. Previously the civil service did not allow for creativity and their ability to think out of the box was curtailed.

"After visiting the labs, Deputy Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin), the Chief Secretary to the Government (Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan) and I are equally proud of their achievement so far," said Najib, who was accompanied by Muhyiddin during the visit.

He said that the work done at these laboratories proved that Malaysia's civil servants had the ability to be creative provided they were given the opportunity.

"For example, we have already identified and graded all 10,000 schools nationwide. This would have taken time in the past.

"The same with village roads; even roads in the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak have been identified and plans have been made to upgrade them. It is the same with all the other NKRAs," he added.

Najib said the staff at these laboratories worked a minimum of 12 hours a day and at times, they even had discussions till 5am.

"The cabinet will give due recognition to these civil servants, including giving them some sorts of reward," he added.
