Winning Malaysia Cup - A Gift For Newly Crowned Ruler
SEREMBAN, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan hope to win the Malaysia Cup as a special gift for newly crowned Negeri Sembilan ruler Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir whose coronation was held on Oct 26.
Coach Wan Jamak Wan Hassan, a former international, said all the players and officials had promised to give their all to win the cup as a fitting gift to Tuanku Muhriz.
"We know it will not be an easy mission on Saturday but everyone is excited and focused on the task ahead. Wining the cup will also end a 61-year wait for Negeri Sembilan," he told Bernama here today.
Negeri Sembilan who advanced to the Malaysia Cup final after beating Terengganu 4-1 on aggregate after 1-0 and 3-1 in their home and away semi-final matches, face Kelantan at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday (Nov 7).
The last time Negeri Sembilan won the cup was in 1948 when they beat Selangor 2-1 to win the cup that was known as the HMS Malaya Cup, then.
Negeri Sembilan had made it to two Malaysia Cup finals in 2000 and 2006 but lost on both occasions to Perak (0-2) and Perlis (1-2) respectively.
"This is the best opportunity for us to win the Malaysia Cup because we have had a very good season and I have told the players to remain focused on the task ahead. Their physical and mental strength will be put to a real test by Kelantan," said Wan Jamak.
