TUN DR. MAHATHIR REMINDS OF ROLES AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF WOMEN AND YOUTH IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AT THE TENTH PERDANA DISCOURSE
KUALA LUMPUR, 5 November 2009 - Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, delivered the keynote address on “The Role of Women and Youth in National Development” at the tenth Perdana Discourse Series at Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya. The Discourse was the final and tenth instalment of the Perdana Discourse Series and was sponsored by PROTON.
The former Prime Minister who introduced “Program Rakan Muda” for Malaysian youth in the 1990s, and set up the Ministry for Women and Family Development in 2001 to encourage more women to leadership positions in the private and public sectors, gave an hour-long keynote address on the topic to more than two hundred fifty university students, lecturers, and members of the public, Also in attendance were the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Professor Dr. Ibrahim Abu Shah, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Perdana Leadership Foundation, Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Hashim, and former President of the International Islamic University Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Sanusi bin Junid.
