KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 (Bernama) –  Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) aims to boost its membership to 400,000 from the current 340,000 by year-end and empower women as contributors to the nation’s economy.

Speaking to reporters at the “Dialogue with Women Entrepreneurs – Women as Economic Growth Drivers” here today, chairman, Datuk Junaidah Kiting said the AIM staff had been reaching out to women entrepreneurs nationwide.

AIM was incorporated in 1987 as a microfinance institution to help poor households by providing micro credit loans for income generating activities.

Meanwhile, Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd (PUNB) chairman Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin said the organisation had been identifying entrepreneurs who have the potential to penetrate the international market, adding, entrepreneurs should also expand their market reach and not just focus on the local scenario.

“Entrepreneurs need to be self-sufficient and capable of setting up their own business and not limit themselves to the domestic market, or rely on the government,” she said, adding, they should also be given training on ways to elevate their business.
