MALAYSIA'S VOLUME INDEX OF SERVICES UP 6.5 PCT IN Q1 2019

KUALA LUMPUR, May 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s volume Index of services rose 6.5 per cent to 167.4 points in the first quarter of 2019, compared with 157.3 points in the same period last year.

Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the seasonally adjusted volume index of the sector went up 1.1 per cent to 167.9 points in the quarter as compared to the previous quarter.

“The positive growth for the services sector in the first quarter was driven by wholesale and retail trade, food and beverages, and accommodation segment; as well as information and communication and transportation and storage segment which both recorded the same growth of 6.9 per cent,” he said in a statement today.

He added that other services segment grew by 6.4 per cent stimulated by arts, entertainment and recreation sub-sector which at 9.5 per cent.
