YBR ALLOCATES RM855,000 IN BID TO PRODUCE MORE BUMI ACCOUNTANTS
KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) – Thirty students will undertake a professional accounting course at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) under a full scholarship jointly offered by Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) and the Ministry of Education.
YBR general manager Norashikin Shaharudin said to overcome the problems faced by Bumiputeras in gaining a professional accounting qualification, RM855,000 has been allocated to cover the RM28,500 fee for each professional accounting course.
“Taking into account the ACCA examination fee of RM700 for each paper, many Bumiputera students still cannot afford the cost of examinations in order to become qualified professional accountants,” she said.
YBR aims to raise the percentage of Bumiputeras with professional accounting certificates from the current eight per cent to 30 per cent by 2020.
The foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Accountants (MICPA) in early July, and welcomes more strategic partnerships especially with government-linked companies (GLCs), in a bid to produce more Bumiputera professional accountants in Malaysia.
“This collaboration is in line with the nation’s agenda to increase the number of Bumiputera professionally qualified accountants to 60,000 by 2020,” she added.
