KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 -- TM One, the enterprise and public sector business solutions arm of Telekom Malaysia Bhd, is in talks with e-wallet and digital banking services providers to develop solutions for digital banking.

TM One chief executive officer Ir Azizi A Hadi said there are many well-established e-wallet and digital banking services providers in the country that the company is keen to work with.

“One thing we are aware when we are working on end-to-end solutions is that we may not be able to have everything on our own.

“So, this is where partnerships become important. So, we are looking for partners who are willing to work with us. There are a few payment gateway providers out there, some are very successful, there are e-wallet and digital banking service providers that we can work with," he told Bernama in an interview.

Azizi said besides digital banking, there is a lot of potential in developing solutions in the areas of unmanned banking, data centres, disaster recovery solutions and managed security services with the Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) policy issued by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) on July 18.

The policy, which will come into effect beginning Jan 1, 2020, sets out the expectations for banks to establish a holistic technology risk management framework.

"In addition, we are also working on e-KYC (Know-Your-Customer) or e-signatures and has already developed in-house that we can put together as part of end-to-end solutions for the digital banking industry.

"We are also creating a financial platform for banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector and are working closely with BNM and industry players in the banking sector," he said, adding that blockchain and financial technology (fintech) are other areas that the company is working on.

Azizi said BFSI, oil and gas, real estate, defence and security, education, healthcare and public shared services are among seven verticals under its smart services segment.

"We started with 12 verticals in 2017 and as a result, we have come out with digital framework for all verticals.

"At the end of 2018, we have recommended to reduce to seven verticals with growth potential and the propensity to adopt digitalisation, and majority of them are already digitally transformed," he noted.

At present, the contribution of the smart services segment is still relatively small, he said.

"We started smart service by looking into smart building, smart city and so on, but as we change the operating model from traditional enterprise and government into the industry verticals, we have come out with a lot more smart services solutions, with the intention to help them go through digital transformation as part of our promise to the market to become the enterprise and digital enabler.

"I anticipate it (smart services) will be critical in our offering, whether it will contribute a big chunk of the revenue will depend on how aggressive we are in the market, what sort of projects we do, and depending on the adoption of digitalisation among the enterprise and government agencies," he added.

Despite the current stiffer competition, Azizi believes TM One, as a fully integrated service provider, has better opportunities to win deals in the market.

Meanwhile, Azrin Aris , director of emerging solution and innovation for product and solutions division, said among the platforms that TM One has developed is Smart Traffic Analytics and Recognition System (STARS), which aims to reduce congestion and maintenance cost.

At present, the STARS traffic light system is being used in Cyberjaya, Kelantan and Johor.

"We are using existing traffic light and utilising Internet of Things technology to make them smarter, with sensors to collect data, and we use artificial intelligence to predict traffic, so the flow becomes better.

"On top of using sensors, we use cameras like we do in Cyberjaya to collect the data," Azrin said, adding the system can also be utilised for parking monitoring system, hydrophonics farming and aquaponics systems.

"We are a bit different from other players as we take the angle of smart city as a whole and we are the only one looking at smart city in totality," he added.

Additionally, TM One is also using the same platform for street light management, water meter reading platform and generator monitoring system and others.

Azrin said one of the shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur have also installed TM One's smart services system to collect data and information to determine rental based on visitors traffic, among others.
