KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12  -- The prevailing haze in the country is expected to have a negligible impact on the progress of the Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) project.

In this regard, MRCB George Kent Sdn Bhd (MRCBGK), the company undertaking the venture, has also moved to ensure all its construction workers on site are safeguarded, by providing them with the N95 respirator (mask).

Project director Patrick Hwang Chee Leong said the company was increasing the frequency of distributing new N95 respirators to its workers every other day, to protect them from inhaling hazardous airborne particles.

He told Bernama, MRCBGK was also monitoring the Air Pollution Index (API), and should the reading increase to 160 and above, outdoor construction activities would be reduced as much as possible.

"Aside from providing our workers with additional water bottles and encouraging them to drink more water to flush out toxins, we also conduct regular medical surveillance and examination on them," he said.

He said the measures are in compliance with the LRT3 project’s health surveillance and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Guidelines For The Protection Of Employees Against The Effects Of Haze At Workplaces.

MRCB George Kent is a joint venture company between Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) and George Kent (M) Bhd to specifically undertake the LRT3 project.

MRCB is currently the largest developer cum contractor of Transit Oriented Developments in the country, while George Kent is a leading engineering company and top home-grown railway system specialist.
