GEORGE TOWN, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- Penang is confident it will become the hub for arts in Southeast Asia for the next 10 years, says state Tourism, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.
He said the state government would continue to play its role to uplift arts as it could help generate economic growth for the state and the country.
“This is also in line with the Penang Tourism Master Plan to promote the state’s arts and culture through exhibitions and competitions,” he told reporters at a press conference on The Art Showdown Arts Exhibition here today.
Meanwhile, The Art Showdown exhibition organiser Rebecca Yeoh has urged local artists to submit their works before Feb 1 for them to be exhibited at the China House in Jalan Victoria from Feb 1-15.
“We have received 20 entries so far but our target is 100,” she said, adding that they could sell their handicrafts for anywhere between RM300 and RM900.
