KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- An Amirrullah Zainol brace and a three-goal burst late in the second half allowed Maybank to produce a five-star performance and trounce Nurinsafi/Kedah Hockey 5-1 in their opening Premier Division match in the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) 2019 tonight.
Amirrullah Zainol sounded the board for the Tigers in the 26th and 31st minutes before former national player Hafifihafiz Hanafi (56th ), Muhammad Hafiizhuddin Zaidi (59th ) and Muhamad Nazrey Din (60th ) added one apiece at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
Baljit Singh Sarjab scored a consolation goal for Nurinsafi through a penalty corner attempt in the 53rd minute.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), this year’s Tan Sri P. Alagendra Cup winners, also collected all three points after downing Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) 4-1 this evening.
National players Muhamad Ramadan Rosli (4th minute), Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook (6th), Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin Tengku Abd Jalil (11th) and Firhan Ashaari (41st) were on target for TNB.
UiTM’s sole reply came off a Mohamad Izuan Azhar penalty corner attempt in the 17th minute.
Earlier, Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) lifted the Charity Shield for the first time in four attempts when they beat last year’s overall champions Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) 3-1 in a penalty shootout after both teams were tied 2-2 in regulation time at the Batu Buruk Hockey Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.
Meanwhile, TNB Thunderbolts will begin their Premier Division campaign on Sunday when they take on THT in Kuala Terengganu.
Seven teams are competing in this year’s Premier Division.
