KUALA LUMPUR, March 25, (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) targets the top five best groups in the overall individual races including two podiums at the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL 2019) competition on April 6 to 13.
According to TSG chief operating officer, Nasiruddin Wan Idrus, his team had set the moderate targets as it did not want to put pressure on his racers at the edition this time.
‘’TSG depends on Artem Ovechkin and Drew Morey for the climbing stage while Mohd Harrif Saleh and Youcef Reguigui to chase the podium based on their excellent achievement records at the last edition.
“Mohd Zamri Saleh has been retained as team skipper for the challenge this time and Nur Amirul Fakhruddin Marzuki will give help in the moments it is needed,” he said in a statement today.
Nasirudin said TSG, which was currently ranked second in the UCI Asian Tour, was seen as able to defend the yellow jersey won by Ovechkin at last year’s edition.
At the edition this time, Ovechkim would be helped by an experienced assistant, Morey to grab a place at the competition at the climbing stage in Genting Highland which was relisted at the bicycle racing championship this time.
The service of the winner of the 2015 edition, Reguigui would also be used by TSG to wrest the front group at the massed race at the level stage together with Zamri Salleh and national sprint ace, Harrif Saleh.
Twenty-two teams would be taking part in the oldest cycling tour in Asia involving eight race stages. The race would start in front of the Petronas Twin Tower, Kuala Lumpur on April 6 before ending in Langkawi on April 12 and 13.
‘’The 1,700-metre climb at Genting Highlands is the main attraction of the tour this time starting at Shah Alam at the fourth stage and passing 1,250 km through the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia.
