Irfan Bakti Abu Salim
KUALA NERUS, May 17 (Bernama) -- The absence of Irfan Bakti Abu Salim will not affect Terengganu FC's (TFC) players in collecting three points when they face Felda United in the Super League at Tun Razak Stadium, Jengka tomorrow night, said its acting head coach Nafuzi Zain.
Nafuzi, who was TFC's assistant coach, took the role as head coach after Irfan Bakti decided to resign suddenly yesterday, following the disastrous performance of the Turtles in losing 3-5 to PJ City FC on home turf on Tuesday.
"As a coach, I have to take on this responsibility and continue what Irfan has done and he had actually given his best. TFC will have no problem meeting Felda United because the team was built by Irfan in the past two years," said Nafuzi, a former Turtles player who helped Terengganu to win the Malaysia Cup for the first time in 2001, when met at the Gong Badak Stadium, here.
Irfan Bakti's resignation was indeed a surprise and his touches are still important to continue the challenge in the league.
Nafuzi, however, denied the speculation that the matter was due to the Terengganu State Football Association (PBSNT)'s internal problems and it is likely to be prompted by the supporters.
"The whole team was surprised by the announcement and I only knew about it through PBSNT's official website. In football, it is always like a tidal wave with its ups and downs and now, the situation is not in our favour," he said.
