PUTRAJAYA, May 24 (Bernama) -- The country's Paralympic athletes, especially at the grassroots level, will be better protected by the Malaysian Paralympic Athletes’ Foundation which is to be launched soon.
National Sports Council (NSC) Paralympic Division director Halimon Mohd Sood said such athletes in the states would able to conduct their sports activities with the funds made available through the foundation,
According to Halimon, athletes at the state level faced financial constraints as the financial assistance received was insufficient for them to carry out activities as well as to get training equipment.
"With this foundation, it augurs well for Paralympic athletes in the states. There is not enough available aid for athletes to carry out their sporting activities.
"We have the allocation but the allocation is usually focused on the preparation of high-performance athletes and those who participate in international tournaments," he said when met after the pre-launch 'My Voice My Nation Malaysia 2019' here today.
Earlier, Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, at a press conference, had said the My Voice My Nation Malaysia 2019 programme was an 'edutainment' event using the motivational public speaking platform.
He said the programme will be held on June 26 at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur Sports City, Bukit Jalil, which will feature leading public speaking personalities in the country and abroad, comprising politicians, entrepreneurs and entertainers.
"They will share stories and knowledge from their life experience to be a source of inspiration to the audience," he said.
At the programme, the national Paralympic squad will be making a special appearance.
