JOHOR BAHRU, May 26 (Bernama) -- The leadership of the National Farmers’ Association (Nafas) has submitted its business plan to the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry (MOA) last month, says its Minister Datuk Salahuddin Ayub.
He said the plan covered four areas namely padi, livestock, agro food and fisheries.
“I have seen and studied it and I gave full confidence to the new Nafas leadership for them to carry out various initiatives.
“The ministry will be assisting in terms of expertise which involved the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Farmers Organisation Authority and so on,” he said after opening the Pulai parliamentary constituency Peladang Kasih programme.
According to him, the business plan will be studied in detailed to realise several initiatives and strategies to improve the country’s food sector in future.
According to him, what is important is that a new Nafas has evolved with the new leadership which is the umbrella to almost 900,000 farmers throughout the country.
He said the restructuring process of the organisation is still going on after its suspension was lifted on Jan 15.
