KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia have a daunting task ahead as they are slated to meet three top-ranked teams in the 2020 Ready Steady Tokyo Hockey Test Event at the brand new Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo, Japan from Aug 17-21.

Based on the schedule released by International Hockey Federation (FIH) in their website; today, the Malaysian Tigers will meet three-time Asia Cup winners India in the opening match on Aug 17, followed by a match against 2018 Asian Games gold medallist Japan (Aug 18), before completing their preliminary fixtures against world number six New Zealand two days later.

Three Asian teams -- India, Japan and China -- and three-time Olympic champions Australia are the four teams invited by the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic Games to take part in the women’s hockey competition.

Based on the tournament format, the top two teams after the completion of the preliminary round will meet in the final, while the third and fourth teams in the preliminary round will square off in third/fourth classification match.

Field Hockey is one of 56 test events that will be held in and around Tokyo from June 27 until May 6, 2020 as part of Japan’s preparation to ensure venues and operational procedures are perfected ahead of the main event in 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
