JFF TO FEATURE 13 OF JAPAN'S BEST MOVIES AT GSC NATIONWIDE THIS SEPT

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 -- The annual Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2019 is set to kick off this September 5 with a month-long screening of 13 finest movies from the “Land of the rising sun” touted to capture the hearts and minds of Malaysian movie goers at selected Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) nationwide.

This year's JFF, which is entering its 16th year, will feature some of the finest and most acclaimed titles across a variety of genres which had been released in 2018 and 2019, including one yet-to-be-released movie “Little Nights, Little Love" in five Malaysian cities.

Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur (JFKL) Director Seiya Shimida said “Little Nights, Little Love” directed by Rikiya Imaizumi, one of the most celebrated young directors in Japan, will be premiered as the Opening Film of the JFF2019 at the GSC Pavilion Kuala Lumpur on Sept 3, ahead of its release in Japan on Sept 20.

He added that JFF2019 is also extra significant as this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of JFKL.

“For the past 16 years, JFF has been receiving endless support and love from Malaysians, making it one of the most anticipated events every year. JFF now tours to Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching other than Klang Valley and Penang for longer durations to bring the finest selection of Japanese films to the big screens,” Seiya said during a press conference at the GSC Midvalley here, today. 

The festival proper will take off on Sept 5 with simultaneous screenings of movies at four venues in the Klang Valley namely GSC Mid Valley, GSC Pavilion KL, GSC 1Utama and GSC NU Sentral. 

The fest will then move on the GSC Gurney Plaza in Penang from Sept 12 to 15, before going to Johor Bahru for screenings at the GSC Paradigm JB from Sept 19 to 22.

JFF2019 will then screen its movies in Kuching (CityOne Megamall) and Kota Kinabalu (Suria Sabah Mall) from Oct 3 to 6. 

Among the movies lined up for JFF2019 are the Farewell Song,  Color Me True, Samurai Shifters, Lying to My Mom, My Dad is a Heel Wheeler and La La La at Rock Bottom.

All tickets will be sold at RM9, and can be purchased from Aug 29 onwards.

This year, the JFF2019 is expected to draw more than 10,000 movie fans compared to 9,004 last year.
