KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 -- Malaysian Football Association (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin called on the Under-15 (U-15) players to control their emotion and maintain the discipline during in the 2020 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Championship qualifiers in Vientiane, Laos from Sept 18-22.
He said although FAM was more concerned about players’ development more than the victory, it was important for the players to remain consistent as they would play against other teams as the winner of the 2019 AFF U-15 Championship in Thailand last month.
For the record, the U-15 squad was also named champion in the CFA China International Youth Football Tournament in Haikou City, China, held in July.
Hamidin said the U-15 players under coach P. Maniam had to work really hard if they wanted to remain consistent.
“After winning the AFF U-15 in Chonburi, Thailand, on Aug 9, I am sure many will look at us as a formidable team and they will definitely want to defeat us.
“So it’s important for us to work harder by paying close attention to the championship and always obeying coach’s instructions,” he said at a dinner to fete the U-15 squad before the boys departing for Laos on Friday.
The dinner was held last night at the residence of FAM vice-president and team manager Datuk S. Sivasundaram.
Malaysia have been drawn in Group J, and will open their campaign by playing Cambodia on Sept 18, and then host Laos (Sept 20) before ending their campaign against Japan two days later. All matches will be played at the Laos National Stadium.
