KUCHING, Sept 16 -- Efforts to address the issue of trans-boundary haze require the cooperation of ASEAN member countries, said Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
The deputy prime minister said the agreement of the 10 nations is required in coming up with a mechanism to deal with the issue.
"If the transboundary haze is approaching, we want the approval of the ASEAN countries in dealing with the problem as this must be a joint effort," she told the media after attending the state PKR Leadership Council meeting here today.
On efforts to tackle the haze in Malaysia, Dr Wan Azizah, who is also National Disaster Management Agency chairman said, cloud seeding operations have already been carried out in Putrajaya, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.
"As for Sarawak, cloud seedings will be carried out tomorrow (19th) ... but then again it will depend on the clouds and the right atmospheric conditions to produce rain," she said.
Dr Wan Azizah said she had also contacted Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin to get the country’s latest hotspots report.
