KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 -- The three-month training with the women's indoor hockey squad has helped national women's hockey striker, Siti Zulaikha Hussin to adapt to the sport which she would be playing at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines in November.

The 18-year-old noted that the rules and methods of playing field hockey were different than those in the indoor event where the movement is faster but limited.

"Currently, I am training with the national squad for indoor hockey. For the SEA Games preparation, the national squad has undergone a lot of fitness training.

"I have to quickly adapt to the event gameplay as it is different from field hockey. I managed to adapt the coach's guidance and InsyaAllah, I would be ready for SEA Games," she said when met at the launch of the AL Sports Hijab for Muslimah, a hijab for sports by Malaysia's number one sports retailer, Al-Ikhsan Sports, here today.

According to Siti Zulaikha, in preparation for the biennial Games scheduled for Nov 30 to Dec 11, the national women's indoor hockey team will have a friendly match against Singapore on Oct 5 and 6.

According to Siti Zulaikha, in preparation for the biennial event which will run from Nov 30 to Dec 11, the national women's hockey team will have friendly matches with Singapore on Oct 5 and 6.

"Right after that, we will be participating in the six-corner competition which involved Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Singapore, Philippines and probably Thailand, which is Malaysia's strongest rival, at the end of October," she said.

The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) has targeted two gold medals from the indoor hockey event in the Philippines, as the host has decided not to list the men's and women's field hockey event.

The women's indoor hockey team won the bronze medal at the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.

Commenting on AL Sports Hijab, Siti Zulaikha noted that the hijab is suitable for sports activities and was comfortable to wear during training as well as during competition.

"It is very suitable and comfortable and it suits the face shape. The material used for these hijab absorbs sweat and can be worn by all women with active lifestyles," she said.

According to Al-Ikhsan Sports chief executive officer Vach Pillutla, the AL Sports Hijab was designed with SmartDry Technology, which could absorb perspiration, followed by the conductive layer to channel heat to the next layer and releases heat to keep Muslimah cool during sports.

"Our consumers are always seeking for new sports products to complement their active lifestyle and with the new launch of AL Sports Hijab in AL Muslimah sportswear range, we are confident that AL Sports will be well received by our customers.

"Al-Ikhsan Sports is the ONLY sports retailer that has introduced sports hijab under our in-house brand. We have always endeavoured to bring high-quality sports products at very affordable prices and we will continue with such initiatives in the future," he said.
