850 MALBATT 850-6 officers and men receive PNBB medals

PORT DICKSON, Nov 9-- A total of 850 officers and men from the Malaysian Battalion 850-6 (MALBATT 850-6) received the United Nations National Service Medals at the Army Basic Training Centre (PUSASDA) here, today.
The group led by Col Azhan Md Othman as MALBATT 850-6 Commander, comprised 80 officers and 770 other ranks of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) , a civilian financial officer from the Defence Ministry as well as three officers and 27 members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
The MALBATT 850-6 force had just completed the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Lebanon.
The award is in recognition of the success of the force in carrying out the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon for one year beginning Sept 24 last year.
Malaysian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lt Jen Datuk Kamalruzzaman Mohd Othman (TUDM) representing Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin presented the awards at a function in conjunction with the parade disbanding Malbatt 850-6 and and the ceremony to remove the UN blue beret at the PUSASDA parade ground, here.
Also present were Joint Forces Chief Lt Gen Datuk Suhaimi Mohd Zuki and representatives of the army, navy and air force chiefs.
MALBATT 850-6 has been reorganised to return home in four phases with the first group having arrived on Oct 2 and the last group on Oct 30.
Subsequent mission has been taken over by MALBATT 850-7 beginning last Oct 17 also for a duration of one year.
Meanwhile, in his speech Kamalruzzaman said generally the strong performance shown by MALBATT 850-6 had succeeded in maintaining the continued excellence of the Malaysian Armed Forces in Lebanon and the UN.
