KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 -- Khaira PPZ has contributed RM600,000 to the needy through 36 programmes implemented throughout the year.
Khaira PPZ is a corporate social responsibility programme under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collaboration Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) in collaboration with corporate bodies, emphasising concern for disadvantaged individuals and local communities.
PPZ-MAIWP chief executive officer Ahmad Shukri Yusoff said that through the programme which began in March, they had donated daily essentials to the target group to reduce their living expenses.
"Khaira PPZ is going down to the field with other strategic corporate partners to help the underprivileged through the CSR programme, aimed at enhancing the Islamic ecosystem as well as help develop the country's economy.
"In addition to functioning as zakat collection institution, we also contribute funds through CSR programmes like this," he said after handing out donations to 200 recipients in Wangsa Maju here today.
He said the programme was hoped to increase people's confidence towards the body and encourage Muslims to contribute zakat, which is distributed by Baitulmal MAIWP to the 'asnaf' (groups of people worthy of receiving tithe).
The Khaira PPZ programme has also received cooperation from corporate bodies such as Tesco Stores (M) Sdn Berhad, Padiberas Nasional Berhad (Bernas), Jakel Trading Sdn Bhd and McDonald's Malaysia.
