KUCHING, 27 Feb (Bernama) -- This year's Sarawak Tourism Calendar is featuring 250 events, compared to 248 events last year, said State Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
He said that like in previous years, Sarawak continues to maintain major events such as the Sarawak Regatta and World Rainforest Music Festival, which have become the state's main products and attractions.
"Additionally, the food festival, organised by the Kuching South City Council, which showcases the local community's culture and has attracted thousands of visitors over two weeks, will continue," he said.
Speaking to reporters after chairing the Sarawak Tourism Steering Committee meeting here today, he said the state is targeting five million visitors this year, surpassing last year's arrival figure of 4.8 million people.
According to him, most of the visitors last year came from Brunei, with more than 150,000 visitors each month, and their presence has had a positive impact on the border towns and cities such as Limbang, Lawas and Miri.
"Additionally, visitors from Indonesia have also shown great interest, with Kuching becoming increasingly recognised as a must-visit destination," he added.
