PDRM foster area programme effective, to be extended

SANDAKAN, March 8 (Bernama) -- The foster area programme by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will be extended to housing estates and villages as it has proven to reduced the incidence of crime in two places, especially in Sandakan.

Chief of Police in Sandakan, ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin said crime rates in two areas under the Sandakan District Police Headquarters (IPD) - the Sungai Manila People’s Housing Project (PPR) and the Harmoni PPR - have dropped.

“In fact, there have been no new reported cases since these places were adopted.

“Police are satisfied as the residents have cooperated in the efforts to reduce the crime rates. So the programme should be extended,” he told reporters after launching Kampung Tinusa 2 here as the foster area for the Sandakan IPD today.

He said the programme would identify the hot areas for crime, such as drug abuse to be made foster areas.
