Govt agencies should cooperate in 'Love MY Palm Oil' campaign - Kok

KOTA KINABALU, April 1 (Bernama) -- The cooperation of government agencies, especially tourism-related agencies, is important in promoting the ‘Love MY Palm Oil’ campaign at the international level, said Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok.
She said tourism agencies could act as the country’s spokespersons in conveying the truth about the country’s palm oil industry.
“We know that there are a lot of negative and incorrect perceptions hurled against Malaysia’s palm oil industry, and we want them to be corrected,” she told reporters after meeting with Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Assistant Minister Assaffal Alian here today.
Kok said the ‘Love MY Palm Oil’ campaign, which was launched in January, is aimed at instilling love, national pride and greater appreciation for Malaysian palm oil, and to recognise the commodity’s contribution to the economy.
“The campaign also aims to create awareness among the people on the importance of the industry and to encourage all Malaysians to spread the message around the globe,” she said.
She also asked industry players to play their role in the campaign by promoting their products among consumers, especially those who seek the benefits of the edible oil.
On her meeting with Assafal, Kok said it was to discuss about the campaign and she thanked the Sabah government, via the Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry, for its support and willingness to work together to promote the campaign, specifically at the state level.
“We know that Sabah receives more than three million visitors yearly. As such, we have asked the Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry to help us with the campaign so that foreign tourists will know about the Malaysian palm oil industry,” she added.
