KOTA KINABALU, April 9 (Bernama) -- Nine hundred pieces of ballot papers for overseas voters in the Indonesian general election were destroyed when the vehicle carrying the voting papers caught fire in Sandakan on Sunday.
The Indonesian Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, Krishna Djelani said the vehicle went up in flame at about 3 pm while on the way from Kota Kinabalu to several areas in Sandakan to deliver the ballot papers.
"The ballot papers should have been used from yesterday to Thursday, but balloting had to be called off and we have contacted the authorities in Jakarta on the problem and new ballot papers will be sent as soon as possible.
"We hope the ballot papers will arrive at the latest by April 14,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
He said the incident had been reported to police and they are waiting for the report on the cause of the fire.
