Sabah wants to convert PPR lifetime rental policy to hire-purchase concept

Last Update: 10/05/2019

SANDAKAN, May 10  (Bernama) -- State Local Government and Housing (KKTP) Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong wants the lifetime rental policy for the People’s Housing Project (PPR) to be stopped and be converted immediately into hire-purchase concept.

Jaujan, who is also the deputy chief minister, said he had discussed this matter with Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, and the outcome would be submitted to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

“I will also follow up this matter with Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin so it can be realised,” he told reporters after attending the breaking of the fast of Sabah Health and People's Well-being with Sandakan community here today.

He added the people-friendly and caring initiatives were taken into consideration after hearing complaints from Sabahans on the difficulties to own a home.

He said the lifetime rental policy prevented the people from owning their own homes, and such policy, also increased maintenance cost, which would have to be borne by the government.
