Six-month closure of Jalan Masjid causing gridlock

Last Update: 15/05/2019

KUCHING, May 15 (Bernama) -- Renovations to the Yayasan Sarawak building on Jalan Masjid have contributed to traffic congestion in the area for more than six months, said Pending assemblyman, Violet Yong.

Yong, who is also Sarawak DAP organising secretary, said she has received feedback and numerous complaints from the public, especially those wishing to visit the Jalan Masjid health clinic.

She said road-users who are forced to make a detour in front of the clinic are causing the gridlock.

"When I visited the site, I was surprised to see that more than half of the road was shredded (sic) and completely closed to the public," she said.

She questioned if the contractor had approval from the North Kuching City Hall (DBKU) for the renovation project and closure of Jalan Masjid.

"Has this project been implemented in accordance with relevant laws and regulations of the Building Ordinance,” she asked.
