MBPP to restore town hall building

Last Update: 31/05/2019

GEORGE TOWN, May 31 (Bernama) -- The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is planning to do a major restoration of the Town Hall building in at Jalan Padang Kota Lama here, which has been in a state of disrepair.

Mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said certain parts of the building had major leaks from the roof, while the wooden parts of the building were having termite problems.

He said MBPP is now preparing the documents to open a tender for the restoration works, which is expected to be called this August.

"Every time when it rains, it would leak and also certain portions require minor maintenance and we have to keep monitoring. So, we decided to do it once and for all, a major one because we have a big event this coming October,” he told a press conference after chairing the full council meeting, here.

He said a dilapidation report process which sized up the building's structural condition had been completed earlier this year and work to clear out the building's interior would be carried out as soon as the tender had been called.
