Former USM Vice-Chancellor receives Japanese govt award

GEORGE TOWN, May 31 (Bernama) -- Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) former vice-chancellor and alumni Emeritus Prof Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak has been awarded the 'Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon' by the Japanese government.

The university in a statement today said the award was in recognition of Dzulkifli's major contribution in the academic exchange programme between Japan and Malaysia particularly during his tenure as USM vice-chancellor from 2000 until 2011.

It said Emperor Naruhito would present the prestigious award in Japan on a date yet to be announced.

Dzulkifli is currently Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) rector.
