Last Update: 11/06/2019

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 11 (Bernama) -- Terengganu recorded 640 road accidents during the 13 days of Ops Selamat 15/2019 which was launched on May 29.

Terengganu deputy police chief Datuk Alaudeen Abd Majid said the figure showed an increase of 11 per cent compared to the 570 accident cases recorded for the same period during Ops Selamat 13/2018.

However, he said, the number of accident cases involving fatalities showed a sharp drop from 24 cases  recorded during Ops Selamat 13/2018 to 13 cases in Ops Selamat 15/2019, both of which were held in conjunction with Aidilfitri.

“Fatal accidents were recorded on federal and state roads while on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), no such report was received.

“Throughout Ops Selamat 15/2019, police issued 21,284 summonses for various offences compared to 14,615 summonses issued during Ops Selamat 13/2018,” he said at the Ops Selamat 15 press conference at the Terengganu Police Contingent Headquarters today.

According to him, speeding was the most committed traffic offence for which 15,770 summonses were issued.

It was followed by few other offences such as overtaking on double lines, beating the red traffic lights and cutting queue.
