ALOR SETAR, June 13 (Bernama) -- Four tourists from Laos and a Thai man were badly injured after the van they were travelling in crashed into the rear of a trailer lorry at Km101 of the North-South Expressway near Sungai Petani, early today.

Six other Laos national individuals in the van, however, escaped unhurt.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Operation assistant director Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain said they received the distress call about the accident at 5.43 am and arrived at the scene nine minutes later.

“Upon arrival, we saw the Thai man, who is the van driver, pinned to his seat, while four of the Laos tourists, including a woman, were badly injured,” he said in a statement here.

All the injured victims were taken to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for treatment.
