Perlis ruler wants tax collection improved

ARAU, June 13 (Bernama) -- Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail has decreed that the state must give extra attention to the efforts to recover assessment tax arrears amounting to RM26.4 million.

The ruler said an encouraging amount of RM128.9 million of assessment tax had been collected last year, but quite a huge amount was  still in arrears could and could affect the public services.

“Hence, it is only right that you (state execultive councillors) help remind and advise the people to pay their assessment tax,” Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said this after presenting the letters of appointment and witnessing the swearing in of the state executive council members at Istana Arau here today.

All the eight councillors have been reappointed for another year with their portfolios remain unchanged.

The Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail was also in attendance.

Also present was Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also decreed that the state government must give attention to the efforts to ensure success of the Visit Perlis Year 2021 by making all the necessary actions to create green environment.

He also called on all elected representatives to go to the ground to provide explanation to the people and create awareness on the importance of cleanliness in a bid to lure more tourist arrivals to Perlis.

“Right now, Malaysia has been seen as a dumping ground of plastic waste from other countries. So, we have to play our roles to keep the state clean so that the tourists can see how beautiful Perlis is,” he added.
