Last Update: 13/06/2019

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 13 (Bernama) --The Terengganu state government will bear the expenses to enable a couple to visit their son, an Al Azhar University student, who is now in critical condition at the Safarat Hospital in Egypt.

Mohammad Fahmi Faizzudin Asyraf Mohd Shukri, a third year Islamic Studies student at the university, was rushed to the hospital at 2.07am yesterday (8.07am Malaysian time) after he fell unconscious and was forced to undergo surgery following a brain hemorrhage.

State Welfare, Women and Family Development and Unity Committee chairman Hanafiah Mat when contacted by Bernama said the Terengganu government approved an emergency allocation of RM10,000 for the couple’s flight and accommodation expenses.

“State Syariah Implementation, Education And Higher Studies Committee deputy chairman Maliaman Kassim will accompany the parents to Egypt to assist them while they are there,” he said.

News on Mohammad Fahmi’s predicament went viral on social media since last night after a crowd funding was initiated to raise RM40,000 to cover the student’s medical costs.

Meanwhile, Mohd Fahmi's mother, Norhayati Jusoh, 51, said her eldest child had complained of headaches in his WhatsApp conversations but she never expected this turn of events.

“I was informed he is still unconscious after the surgery and I hope he will recover soon,” she said while making preparations to leave for Egypt.
