Last Update: 20/06/2019

KUANTAN, June 20 (Bernama) -- A retail shop trader suffered losses of RM10,000 after falling prey to an Indonesian bomoh to purchase a ruby gem, which was claimed to be the ‘mother of all money’.

Kuantan deputy police chief, Supt Kama Azural Mohamed said the 43-year-old victim bought the gemstone on May 25 while he and his wife met the suspect for treatment.

He said the 46-year-old suspect showed the victim a tin filled with RM100-note and offered the ruby which claimed to be able to double the money.

“The victim got swayed and bought the ruby. The suspect later gave the gemstone with four biscuit tins, claiming it would be filled with money in a certain period of time. The suspect also told the victim not to open the tins within six days.

“The victim, however, was disappointed, when he found three tins were empty while another was filled with rubbish when he opened it after six days later. The victim lodged a report on June 14,” he said in a press conference at the Kuantan district police headquarters here today.

Police raided the suspect’s rented house and found a homemade firearm and seized 15 gemstones, seven television sets of various brands, two handphones, RM100 and RM50 notes amounting to RM5,800 and several old coins.

The suspect, whose permit to stay in Malaysia had expired, was remanded for 14 days since June 15, he said.
